School says no to 3rd-grader's free speech

A third-grader from Nederland, Texas wanted to invite a few of his classmates to the Awana program at church but was told he would have to invite everyone so no one would feel left out. He then brought to school handwritten invitations for everyone in his class. The school district's policy is any time you hand out more than 10 pieces of literature you require prior approval. When the child asked for this approval he was told no. The Alliance Defense Fund is looking into it.
