Kevin Jonas, a former Wyckoff, NJ resident, was recently named as a Father of the Year honoree by the American Diabetes Association. He is the father and manager of the world famous Jonas Brothers band, Kevin Jr., Joe, and Nick. On June 14, Kevin Jonas, Sr. will be one four men to be honored at an American Diabetes Association (ADA) fundraising event at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Ca.

Additionally, on Monday and Tuesday, June 4 and 5, Blue Moon Mexican Restaurant in Wyckoff, NJ will donate 20 percent of each patron’s bill to the American Diabetes Association (diners must let the waitress/waiter know they are there for the fundraiser).

A local event celebrated Jonas’ award on May 2 in Wyckoff at the home of Bill and Joel Werner, longtime friends of the Jonas Family. The Werners hosted a dinner party honoring this “hometown hero” and the contributions he has made to the ADA, raising much needed funds to support diabetes research, education, and advocacy. Bill Werner is the ADA’s fundraising chairman for the Northeast.

“The dinner brought out many of Bergen’s best who pledged their support to the ADA by making online donations in Kevin’s name and bidding on silent auction items, many of which were supplied by local area merchants,” said Bill Werner.

Nick Jonas was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2005 when he was just 13 years old. Nick, who recently starred on Broadway in “How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying,” has raised awareness through public service announcements and congressional testimony and encouraged many young people who have Diabetes.

Since 1999, The ADA has partnered with the National Father’s Day Council to host the Father of the Year Awards dinner. According to the ADA, the four national honorees were selected for their ability to balance their personal and professional lives and serve as role models for their children, while making a difference in their communities. Kevin Jonas, Sr. served the North Jersey area as a pastor in Bergen County for many years.

All proceeds from the June 14 event will support the American Diabetes Association and its mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Past ADA honorees include John F. Kennedy, Frank Sinatra, Ronald Reagan, Tim Russert, Henry Fonda, Rudy Giuliani, Colin Powell, Michael Bloomberg, Yogi Berra, and Walter Cronkite.

Diabetes affects nearly 26 million children and adults nationwide. More than $25 million has been raised from Father of the Year events to help the ADA fund essential education, advocacy and research initiatives. Contributions can be made in Jonas’ honor by contacting Linda Gledhill at (800) 676-4065, ext. 7445 or by emailing: lgledhill@diabetes.org.
