James C. Thompson (JC) began singing at the age of four. He is a member at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Brooklyn, where Rev. Dr. Anthony Truffant is the senior pastor.

JC’s song writing style is unique and majestic, from simplistic to symphonic; He specializes in power love-ballads. JC studied Voice, Vocal Performance, Piano, & Music Theory at the Julliard School of Music and Westchester Conservatory of Music. He attended Elizabeth City State University (North Carolina) on a scholarship and earned a degree with a concentration in Music Performance.

JC has performed throughout the United States and abroad, including the Apollo Theatre, Radio City Music Hall, the Beacon, and Lincoln Center. His group is called Beyond Blessed because he feels he is totally Beyond Blessed!!

Liz Black: What was your most embarrassing moment on stage?

JC Thompson: Ha, ha, so many which one to choose? On the Kirk Franklin Tour, we were opening at the Tom Joyner Family Reunion. Our track would not play in the system.

Liz Black: What word best describes you?

JC Thompson: Passionately devoted!

Liz Black: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your family?

JC Thompson: Actually there are two things: treat everyone with respect and compassion and keep your word.

Liz Black: Tell me about your new album.

JC Thompson & Beyond: READY, the group’s sophomore album, infuses the genres of R&B, funk, hip-hop, neo-soul, house/dance and, of course, Contemporary Gospel. The CD, which offers a fresh and unique sound in Inspirational and Gospel Music, is doing extremely well and has yielded two music videos, “I Don’t Know Why” and “Ready.” Both projects are available on iTunes or at www.beyondblessedmusic.com. The group’s third project, A Season of Thanks, will be released this fall along with my book, Holy Temple: How I Lost 200 pounds!
