An important STAR 99.1 listener
mooreramblings | 16 November, 2008 16:42
I'd like to introduce you to, Gabby - a very special STAR 99.1 listener. Gabby's story has touched all of the staff, and I'd like to share it with you.
Dave,
I just wanted to take a second to let you know how you have been blessing us for the past hour. My 12-year-old daughter, Gabrielle is currently admitted in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She has been here for 111 days. She has had surgery today and is very ill tonight with a fever of 105 degrees even after treating with Tylenol. This is a critical situation and an hour and a half ago we had to put her on a cooling blanket that runs cold water under her to bring down her temperature and stabilize her. As you can imagine, this is very uncomfortable for her and she spent the first half hour screaming at the top of her lungs. Then I asked her if she wanted me to live stream Star 99.1 on our laptop and that's what we did! (We live in NJ and listen to you when we are at home)
Well, she stopped screaming. And instead of her begging me nonstop to take her temperature again.....we now wait together.....for 2 songs to be finished......and then we take her temperature. Instead of screaming in frustration we are singing out loud together and taking her temperature every 2 songs and having a beautiful time together.
Thanks for blessing us........and helping us get through this very difficult and scary time.....with Peace and spiritual support!
I feel so blessed,
Christiane

Star Wars, nothing but Star Wars
mooreramblings | 16 November, 2008 16:17
Didj'ya know that there was a Star Wars holiday special in the 70s? Betcha didn't! Well, guess what? It was a 2 hour produced-for-TV movie and starred the original cast (PLUS BEA ARTHUR!). Why don't they air it anymore? Because it's one of the worst things ever produced for your viewing pleasure.
If you have the time, check out part 1. If you want to see the rest, click around YouTube.
What to do on a rainy day?
mooreramblings | 29 August, 2008 23:33
Don't let a rainy day get you down because there's tons of things you and the family can do. I'm going to give you a few ideas, but maybe you have an idea or project you would like to share! Feel free to comment below or email your ideas - dave@star991fm.com
Here are some of the things my wife and I do with our daughter Emily when it's kinda yucky out.
1. Movies! Rainy days are the best for going to the movies. Sure, you have to go outside, get a little wet running to the car, but there's nothing like being at the movies.
2. Movies @ home. Break out the NetFlix you got this week, the family movies you have on VHS, or just loaf around watching On Demand or Pay-Per-View. Hey, you might even find a movie on YouTube or here: www.WWITV.com.
3. Build a fort from couch cushions. Remember doing this as a kid (you know you did it)? Well, teach it to your kids...they'd love it. Plus, you mind find some spare change in the couch you can use for gas. Everybody wins.
4. Paint! Break out the washable paints and have an art contest. Here's a tip though - the kids always win.
5. Board Games. Make sure you have enough for an hour or more because if you're playing Candyland for 7 hours, the word BOARD becomes BORED.
6. Make weird, wacky sandwiches. The only rule is that you be creative. Here's what my daughter Emily came up with:

mooreramblings | 08 August, 2008 18:54
Olympian Stephen Scherer will be on tonight to talk a little about how a 19 year old from a single parent home got a "shot" to go to Beijing. Listen in the 7pm hour.
What would you do?
mooreramblings | 18 July, 2008 19:57
A toll collector on The Mass Pike was given a card with $100 dollars in it. The card read "SHARE." What would you do?
Emily's First Loose Tooth!
mooreramblings | 01 July, 2008 22:16
Emily is so very excited to have her first loose tooth. She was telling her "Nanny" (my Mother-in-law) that she thinks $16.00 is an appropriate amount for each tooth. I would have taken a tack hammer and knocked out ALL of my teeth if $16.00 per tooth was the going rate!

The Afters
mooreramblings | 25 June, 2008 20:21
The Afters came by to play in the STAR 99.1 kitchen this afternoon........and stuck a guitar in my nose.

I'm a thrifty shopper
mooreramblings | 15 June, 2008 23:43
Don't tell the authors, but I've never purchased a LEFT BEHIND book at the suggested retail price. Why? I like to frequent the fine thrift stores here in the tri-state area, and I love to browse the book sections. For some reason there's a plethora of these books just sitting, waiting for you to discover them.....or maybe I just show up on "Left Behind" day.

WEIRD NJ (Roads)
mooreramblings | 11 June, 2008 18:09
Today was the day for strangeness on the roads. Sometimes I see large blades for windmills strapped on trucks, moving their way across the tri-state, and at first that's what I thought I was seeing. But upon closer inspection......we'll call him Moby.

"Don't Touch ME!"
mooreramblings | 08 June, 2008 23:51
...was one of the many things she said to the poor doctor.
My daughter (Emily) woke up early Saturday morning with a pretty high fever so my wife and I made the trek to the doctor's. Giving a 5 year old a test for strep is like trying to extract a tooth from an awake bear - not going to happen w/o a fight. And what a fight it was. So while you were all having a blast at Six Flags and watching MercyMe and Tenth Avenue North, I was one of four holding down a little girl to an examining table.
Emily: 72
Doc: Goose Egg - 0

I'm all a-twitter

Twitter Updates
Here's a good way to keep track of your favorite radio personality 24-7.....aka STALKING. What's TWITTER? Good question. Answer - one more way to pretend you're doing something very important at work.
Best,
dM
