A September 11th poem by STAR 99.1 family member Patricia E. Delaney–
The Aftermath
(A reflection on the emotional response of our nation)
A City asleep, A Capital unaware,
A plane brought down by heroes in a field
We never felt so vulnerable,
So violated, so crushed
The tears, the anger, the fear
We went through all the stages of grief
How can our hearts
Understand such violence?…
From rescue to retrieve
From helplessness to helpfulness
From despair to hope
From destruction to restoration
Reaching out to each other
Brings comfort and strength…
We stand united, committed, resolved
To make our world safer
Our country stronger
Our neighborhoods warmer
By “Peace through Strength”
A nation united, a people attacked,
We arise from the ashes ready to fight back
Our Commander in Chief echoes a plan
To defeat the terror befallen our land
We defend our Homeland, our innocence lost
Send troops to Afghanistan knowing the cost
Then troops to Iraq to deter a dark plan
May freedom and justice take root in those lands
America, America the land that we love
Sweet Land of Liberty be guided from above
Let our forefathers’ wisdom be our guiding hand
May Divine Providence be our guiding Light
