I have an admission to make before I write this book review… I love Christmas books! They lift my spirits any time of year and I really love Christmas books that show how people overcome something hurtful in their lives. The Christmas Glass by Marci Alborghetti is one of those books. (available October 1st in hardcover) The story revolves around a grouping of Christmas tree ornaments that travels across the globe, ending up split among various people who have had an impact on the life of the central character Filomena.
Without giving the entire story away, I will say that I wanted to know more about each of the twelve and Anna, the German woman who starts the story, so I am hoping there are more books on the way about each different piece of glass.
The ending is a bit of a stretch, even for someone like me who loves these books, and I can tell you that there is a bit of a cliffhanger in the last words. From someone who has a fractured family, I can say that this book gave me hope for a more peaceful Christmas than ever before this year. My suggestion is that you pick up the book before Thanksgiving and read each chapter, perhaps out loud to a child or an elderly neighbor, as a gift this season for them. I heartily recommend The Christmas Glass, even if you don’t love Christmas books as much as I do.
