STAR 99.1 salutes The New York Divinity School, our Ministry of the Week!
The New York Divinity School's mission is to educate, equip and empower Christian people of all ethnicities to excel in Biblical nurture, ministry and leadership to engage life in NYC and the world with the Lord Jesus Christ's purposes and perspectives to effect transformations that please and honor Him.
New York Divinity School (NYDS) opened in September 2004 to serve the Lord and his Church, providing the Masters leadership and ministry training. NYDS is committed to the final authority of the Bible for behavior and belief, and it is an active part of the 40-million strong National Association of Evangelicals (NAE, www.nae.net). NYDS president Paul de Vries, PhD, serves on the NAE governing board.
New York Divinity School is also an Itinerant Seminary (IS). Similar to itinerant ministers who are available to preach in different pulpits, the Divinity School brings its classes to churches to help serve the high-level leadership and ministry training needs of those churches, while also inviting potential students from other churches. NYDS faculty teach the classes, and its Masters-level standards are uncompromised. NYDS now serves three such IS relationships with leading churches, and the results are very positive in terms of enrollment numbers and in service to the Lord and his Church. Churches involved in IS already include Manhattan Grace Tabernacle in Manhattan, Trinity Reformed Church in Newark, and Antioch Baptist Church of Brooklyn.
NYDS classes are offered primarily in midtown Manhattan at the Christian Herald (132 Madison Ave.) and downtown at Faith Exchange (65 Broadway). NYDS co-labors also with B. H. Carroll Theological Institute www.bhcti.org for online courses and accreditation.
