STAR 99.1 salutes New City Church, our Ministry of the Week!
New City Church is an expression of the Body of Christ in the heart of urban America that seeks to bring transformation to children. Our mission statement is Loving Kids for change: Using the arts, learning and leading to invite children into the whole life transformation of Christ. Our ministry focuses on five life-changing principles: the transforming power of the gospel, participation in the body of Christ, leadership and employment experience, academic success, and artistic development. Our desire is to follow a child from age six to nineteen and be an advocate, family, friend, and counselor to that child.
New City is a cluster of ministries led by both adults and teenagers committed to experiencing the kingdom of God in the city. It is unique in its ability to trust kids with leadership. At New City, teens help create, manage and lead a performing arts after-school center, a summer camp, a hip-hop teen church experience called "The Xchange", and many other creative ministries.
The younger children inhabit many of these ministries and grow up believing that they can accomplish and succeed like the teens around them. Children who participate in our daily after-school center gain crucial academic support and the strong message that they belong to the family of a loving God. Other New City ministries include a four-week summer camp, a free sailing school, missions trips and youth groups.
